Lanzhou, capital of Northwest China's Gansu province, will roll out 16 high-quality art performances from Nov 1 to Dec 28, to cater to people's desire for spending a leisurely weekend in theaters.

The "Qianli Jiangshan" Symphony Concert, which debuted at the Lanzhou Concert Hall at 20:00 on Nov 1, is on a list of top recommendations.

Renowned Chinese conductor Zhang Guoyong led the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra and the Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra to present an outstanding show, together with outstanding artists such as Zhang Shilin (sheng), Chen Jianhong (pipa), Zhou Feng (erhu), Sun Xiaoyang (piano), Li Dan (soprano), and Wang Minghui (bamboo flute/xiao).

The painting masterpiece "Qianli Jiangshan Tu" (A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains) is the only surviving work from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) painter Wang Ximeng. It depicts magnificent landscapes of the motherland.

The symphonic poem "Qianli Jiangshan" uses various artistic techniques to transform the imagery of the landscape into music art. Over 20 national orchestras, including the Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra, jointly commissioned the renowned composer Zhao Lin to compose this work, which took a year to complete.

In the scroll, the painter divided the scenery into six sections. With mountains as the main subject, each section is either connected by long bridges or linked by flowing water channels, creating a clever and integrated artwork with both independent and interconnected landscapes.

Corresponding to these six sections of the painting are the six movements in the symphony. The composer creates six music scenes by using different instrumental forms in each movement.
