According to film data platform Maoyan, Lanzhou's box office kicked off 2024 with a record-high revenue of over 8 million yuan ($1.12 million) during the three-day New Year's Day holiday that ended on Jan 1.
During the period, cinemas across the city, capital of Northwest China's Gansu province, had received 200,000 viewers for about 7,600 screenings.
Leading the box office charts was the romantic fantasy "Shining for One Thing," whose box-office receipts accounted for nearly 40 percent of the total.
The comedy film "Johnny Keep Walking!" and the Hong Kong crime film "The Goldfinger" claimed the second and third spots respectively.
