During the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, major commercial complexes and commercial blocks in Lanzhou, capital of Northwest China's Gansu province, launched a series of activities to give people a good shopping experience.
On May 1, the plaza of the Hilton Lanzhou City Center was filled with stalls, offering a variety of cultural and creative products such as toys and hand-painted canvas bags. Coffee, craft beer, handmade cookies, and bread stalls also featured a stunning array of choices.
"I drank the apricot peel tea co-branded with magazine Duzhe (Readers) as well as delicious handmade coffee during the holiday," said a local resident surnamed Zhang, "It was really fun to drink coffee alongside the music."
The market held at Xinda Plaza gathered various handicrafts, domestic original animation series accessories and pet products, attracting many young consumers and families with children.
Catering companies in shopping malls also set up stalls outside. They offered freshly-made dishes for sampling, and gave out various vouchers to generate traffic to the stores.
In the Lanzhou Old Street Scenic Area, several dance melodrama performances were staged, leading tourists to appreciate the prosperity of the ancient Silk Road.
"I didn't expect to see such a unique cultural performance right at my doorstep. The camel caravan performers and the dance left a deep impression on me," said a local resident surnamed Liu.
