On the morning of Aug 16, a photo exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between China's Gansu province and New Zealand's Christchurch opened at the Gansu Provincial Museum.
The friendship between Gansu and Christchurch was established in 1984, largely thanks to the efforts of Rewi Alley, the founder of the Bailie School in Shandan county, Zhangye, Gansu province, and a key figure in fostering Sino-New Zealand relations.
Since becoming sister units, Gansu and Christchurch have enjoyed vibrant and fruitful exchanges. This photo exhibition not only reflects on and celebrates the rich history of their sister-city relationship but also marks an important step towards future collaboration.
Phil Mauger, mayor of Christchurch, speaking at the event, emphasized the profound significance of this joint exhibition on the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship. He expressed hope that this occasion would serve as a catalyst for both parties to carry forward friendship, deepen cooperation, and elevate amicable relations to new heights.
