According to the latest data, during the just-concluded May Day holiday, Northwest China's Gansu province experienced a hot cultural and tourism market, with record high tourists and tourism revenue.
During the break, Gansu received a total of 26.8 million tourists and generated tourism revenue of 16.52 billion yuan ($2.28 billion), a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent and 9.5 percent respectively.
Gansu launched over 1,400 cultural and tourism events, including cultural performances, intangible cultural heritage experiences, rural tourism and sports events.
Eight 5A tourist attractions and the world-renowned Mogao Caves in Dunhuang in the province received a total of 890,000 tourists, an increase of 8,000 over the same period last year.
According to online travel platform Ctrip, the hotel bookings in Gansu increased by 12 percent year-on-year and the inbound tourism orders increased by 42 percent year-on-year this holiday.
Overall, the popularity of the cultural and tourism market was attributed to the diverse, personalized and high-quality tourism products launched by various regions in the province.
