The five‑day New Year holiday railway transport period concluded on Jan 4, according to the Lanzhou Railway Bureau. During the period, the bureau handled a total of 1.17 million passenger trips, averaging 234,000 daily. The peak occurred on Jan 1, with 280,000 passenger trips recorded in a single day.
This year was the first New Year holiday since the full opening of the Baotou‑Yinchuan High‑Speed Railway. The new line, which complements the Yinchuan‑Lanzhou and Yinchuan‑Xi'an high‑speed railways, stimulated travel demand in Gansu, Ningxia, and surrounding regions, becoming a key driver of holiday transport growth. Lanzhou Railway Station alone handled 470,600 passenger trips, a year‑on‑year increase of 24.31 percent, with 120,100 trips on Jan 1, representing an impressive 62.88 percent increase.
Faced with the challenges of increased passenger flow and snowy weather, the Lanzhou Railway Bureau ensured a smooth travel experience by adding extra train services and optimizing services where needed. Lanzhou Station continued to enhance support for passengers requiring special assistance and relied on a comprehensive transport coordination mechanism to share information among railway, bus, metro, and taxi services. This approach effectively strengthened the holiday transportation network and got travelers where they needed to be smoothly and without delay.
