The tourism market in Lanzhou, Gansu province, recorded strong growth during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, as short-distance trips became the dominant travel trend. Key scenic spots, including Lanzhou Wildlife Park, Shuimo Danxia scenic area, night cruises on the Yellow River, and Shifo Valley scenic area, all saw rising visitor numbers and tourism revenue.
Night tourism on the Yellow River emerged as one of the most popular activities, with night cruises receiving more than 30,000 visits during the holiday period. Passengers experienced illuminated riverbanks, Zhongshan Bridge, and Baita Mountain alongside themed cruises featuring animal designs and interactive programs.
Lanzhou Wildlife Park received more than 70,000 visits, becoming a major destination for family travel. The province's first artificially-bred giant panda cub, Manlanzai, attracted large crowds, while animal parades, interactive games, and educational activities added to the holiday experience.
Shuimo Danxia scenic area received more than 80,000 visits, and Shifo Valley scenic area saw over 31,000 visits.
The city's diversified tourism offerings helped drive a strong holiday economy, combining natural scenery, cultural experiences, and leisure activities across multiple destinations.
