Lanzhou lily, with a history spanning centuries, is a protected geographical indication product and a renowned Chinese trademark. As China's only sweet lily variety used both as food and medicine, it is known for its jade-white appearance, thick bulbs, tender texture, and naturally sweet flavor, earning recognition in domestic and overseas markets.
By 2025, Lanzhou's lily industry had developed a complete industrial chain covering seed bulb cultivation, standardized planting, deep processing, and market distribution. The core planting area reached about 9,160 hectares, with an annual output of 67,300 metric tons. The industry has created job opportunities for 168,800 agricultural workers and become an important pillar of regional specialty agriculture and rural development.
To strengthen the Lanzhou lily regional public brand, the Gansu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs commissioned Lanzhou University to conduct a comprehensive brand value evaluation. The research team carried out surveys among brand operators, leading enterprises, and consumers, combining field research, online questionnaires, big data analysis, and market data collection.
After a year of assessment, the Lanzhou lily regional public brand was valued at 14.34 billion yuan ($2.11 billion), including about 12.78 billion yuan in economic value and about 1.57 billion yuan in social value.
The evaluation highlighted Lanzhou lily's advantages in unique varieties, a complete industrial chain, and strong brand heritage. Moving forward, the industry will continue to develop high-end healthy food products, expand deep processing, enrich brand storytelling, and further enhance the global influence of this distinctive Gansu agricultural brand.
