Lanzhou University of Technology (LUT), located in Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu province, was jointly founded by Gansu Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence.

LUT was formerly called Gansu Provincial Technical College in 1919, then it became Gansu University of Technology in 1958, and was finally renamed as Lanzhou University of Technology in 2003. After nearly one hundred years of development, LUT has grown into a top multi-disciplinary university featuring solid foundations in engineering, increasing development in the scientific fields, and unique characteristics in liberal arts.

The university currently has two campuses covering an area of 2,430 mu (162 hectares) with a school building area of 1.07 square kilometers. It has 19 institutes, including a teaching and research department. LUT enrolls students from across the country and at present serves 28,214 full-time students,while keeping a graduate employment rate of more than 95 percent. The university now has 2,309 faculty members, including 1,478 full-time teachers, of whom 869 have senior titles.

LUT encompasses nine fields of study, covering engineering, science, management, literature, law, pedagogy, medical science, arts, economics. It has 69 undergraduate programs and 20 provincial key disciplines.

LUT is now steadily advancing its international exchanges and actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. It has established cooperative relationships with more than 40 universities in countries such as the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Every year, the university sends more than 300 teachers and students to study abroad. LUT enrolls foreign students from 51 countries in Asia, Europe and America, and currently houses 413 international students from 34 countries.
