After renovations, it can dispose of 400,000 tons of wastewater daily, doubling its previous capacity. Discharge standards will be raised to reduce pollutant emissions and help improve the water quality of the Yellow River.

The project, constructed by CITIC Environmental Technology Co with an investment of 2.68 billion yuan ($420.79 million), is the largest fully-buried sewage treatment plant in Northwest China. Its above-ground section has been developed into a 110,000-square-meter park.
