"The canteen provides personal services and the food here is affordable. I was grateful to the community for providing such convenience," said a 70-year-old resident surnamed Lei.

Initiated by the Amity Foundation and Chinese internet company Alibaba Group, the program was promoted by the district’s civil affairs bureau and local community workers.

The dining hall's offerings will be inspected regularly by food safety authorities to ensure that its food is safe.
